Ohio Congressional Candidates Clash Over Taxes and Gas Prices
The Ohio ninth congressional district is a battleground in the upcoming midterm elections, with candidates Marcy Kaptur and Derek Merrin taking different stances on key policy issues.
Taxes and gas prices are major points of contention between the two. Kaptur has called for eliminating tax cuts for corporations and top income earners, while Merrin touts his record as a leader on the Ohio Ways and Means Committee, where he lowered property taxes and reduced the state's income tax.
The average nationwide price for gas is $4.39, with Brent crude oil at $102 per barrel. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has signed legislation for a 90-day gas tax holiday, set to take effect on Oct. 4, which will offset the tax as prices fall by 38.5 cents.
Merrin criticized gas prices and called for an end to the U.S. conflict in Iran, saying 'We need to get this war wrapped up, we need to unleash American energy and we got to put more money in people’s pockets.'
