Oil Price Volatility Brings Surplus Windfalls to Energy-Producing States
The price fluctuations of Brent crude oil have had a significant impact on energy-producing states in the US.
In Alaska, for instance, the spike in oil-related tax collections has eliminated a major budget hole and may generate a surplus for Fiscal Year 2026, which ended on June 30.
According to state officials, the surplus dollars will be spent on cash payments for households, grants for schools, heating fuel loans for communities, and state savings.
