Oil Prices Bounce on US-Iran Diplomatic Hopes
Oil prices rose for the first time in five sessions on Tuesday, driven by investor anticipation of potential US-Iran talks at the UN General Assembly. The Brent crude futures November contract jumped $1.72, or 1.7%, to $102.06 a barrel.
The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) October contract, set to expire on Tuesday, increased $1.62, or 1.7%, to $97.4 a barrel. The more actively traded November WTI contract rose $1.28, or 1.4%, to $93.65 a barrel.
US President Donald Trump's statement that he would be open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is expected in New York for the UN meeting, contributed to the price increase. However, Tim Waterer, Chief Market analyst, cautioned that this may be a 'short-covering bounce' rather than a fundamental shift.
