Oil Prices Dip as G7 Releases Emergency Reserves Amid Geopolitical Tensions

Oil prices dipped on Monday amid increasing crude exports from West Asia and the G7's decision to release emergency oil reserves. Brent crude futures fell 66 cents, or 0.65%, to $101.59 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude dropped 95 cents, or 1.03%, to $90.12 a barrel. The price decline follows the G7's agreement to release 100 million barrels of diesel and crude, alongside pledges to avoid energy export restrictions.

Despite concerns over the US-Israeli war on Iran and attacks on Gulf oil infrastructure, the G7's move and rising West Asian crude exports have eased supply anxieties. Tim Waterer, chief analyst at KCM Trade, noted that the strategic reserves release and returning Saudi export volumes are tempering price increases, even as risks of further infrastructure damage persist.

Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for launching ballistic missiles and drones at Saudi Aramco sites in Riyadh and Khurais, in retaliation for Saudi-led strikes in Yemen. Meanwhile, Aramco unexpectedly cut November crude oil prices for Asia to six-year lows. Brent prices remain above $100 per barrel due to geopolitical tensions and increased attacks on commercial vessels in the Gulf.

OPEC+ postponed a review of 2027 oil output quotas due to disruptions from the Iran war, casting uncertainty over future production potential. In Europe, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced plans to intensify attacks on Russian oil refineries.
