Oil Prices Plummet Amid Ongoing Tensions with Iran
The price of oil plummeted over 7% on July 27, marking its largest one-day drop in about two months. The WTI crude oil price fell to around $82.89 per barrel as investors hoped for a potential return to the ceasefire between the US and Iran.
According to Mike Waltz, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, President Donald Trump is giving diplomacy 'some space'. However, there's no indication that a long-term agreement will be reached in the near term.
The conflict has also expanded beyond the Strait of Hormuz, with the Houthis launching attacks on Saudi Arabian oil tankers. Analysts warn that if these attacks worsen, the global oil market could tighten further.
Despite the uncertainty, energy investors are advised to maintain some exposure to domestic energy assets as a hedge against a prolonged conflict between the US and Iran.
