Oil Prices Plummet Amid Trump's Sanctions Stance
Oil prices are experiencing a decline, bringing some relief to the global market. Brent crude futures have fallen by over 1%, hovering near $105 per barrel. The downturn in oil prices is partly due to US President Donald Trump's reluctance to ease sanctions on Iran and release frozen funds as 'concrete' steps regarding its nuclear program.
The high energy prices and potential central banks' interest rate hikes are putting pressure on global markets. According to Kyle Rodda, senior financial market analyst at Capital.com, 'The markets are waiting for a breakthrough or clarity regarding the war. That would support sentiment. But it's unlikely to arrive any time soon.'
Other commodities such as spot silver and platinum have also seen declines, with palladium being an exception, increasing by 1.4% to $1,231.53. In contrast, gold prices have bounced back, climbing 1.1% to reach $4,158.28 per ounce.
Investors are closely watching US economic data for clues on the Federal Reserve's interest rate outlook. Ricardo Evangelista, Director and CEO of ActivTrades, noted that today's modest recovery 'looks like a rebound following yesterday's sharp sell-off, rather than a fundamental change in sentiment.'
