Oil Prices Plummet as Diplomatic Hopes and Saudi Exports Boost Supplies
Global oil prices plummeted to a 12-day low on September 21, with Brent crude falling by 3.4% to settle at $100.34 per barrel and WTI dropping by 4.51% to $95.78 per barrel.
The sharp downward correction in energy benchmarks was attributed to the diplomatic shift towards a potential US-Iran breakthrough during the UN General Assembly, as well as a significant surge in Saudi oil exports.
Tamas Varga, senior analyst at PVM Oil Associates, stated that quant desks and energy traders were pinning their short-term strategies on a breakthrough in peace talks. Satellite tracking data confirmed that Aramco loaded 14 million barrels of crude across seven supertankers over the weekend, driving oil flows up by 314.2% to an average of 2.9 million barrels per day.
