Oil Prices Plummet as Middle East Tensions Ease
The oil market has experienced a notable correction as tensions in the Middle East have eased. WTI crude futures opened lower and moved away from its recent high of around $92.25 reached last Thursday, falling to a four-day low before staging a modest rebound.
The decline in oil prices was driven by the U.S. suspension of military strikes against Iranian targets, leading markets to reassess the Middle East risk premium. The rapid rally previously driven by supply concerns has partially corrected following a cooling of short-term risk-off sentiment.
However, downside pressure on oil prices remains constrained by ongoing supply risks. Shipping stress in the Red Sea region has intensified again, and markets worry that if transportation risks in both the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea escalate simultaneously, the global energy supply chain could face even greater disruptions.
