Oil prices plummeted on Sunday night after President Donald Trump announced that US forces would hold off on new strikes against Iran, citing a potential deal to end the conflict in the Middle East.

The price of U.S. crude oil fell by 5% to $80.79 per barrel, while Brent crude, the international standard, dropped 5% to $83.87 per barrel.

The conflict has been ongoing for over five months and has caused significant disruptions in the global oil market, leading to high prices that have seeped into various products such as gasoline, jet fuel, and diesel.

According to Trump's statement, a resolution to the conflict could allow oil shippers to safely transport vessels through the Persian Gulf, where tankers carrying oil and other products have been trapped during the fighting.
