Oil Prices Plummet as US-Iran Tensions Ease
Global oil benchmarks have taken a sharp tumble after the US and Iran signaled a pause in hostilities, easing tensions in the Middle East.
The Brent crude futures for October delivery fell toward $87.00 per barrel (approximately KES 11,300), following a massive 8.7 percent plunge on Monday, the most severe single-day contraction the benchmark has recorded in over three months.
US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures for September delivery slipped below $81.00 per barrel (KES 10,500), erasing weeks of geopolitically induced gains.
The decline is seen as a welcome relief to energy-importing nations across Africa and the Asia-Pacific, where a sustained drop in crude benchmarks provides vital macroeconomic relief.
