Oil Prices Plummet Below $100 as Diplomacy Hopes and Saudi Exports Boost Market Sentiment
Oil prices plummeted below $100 per barrel on Monday as hopes for renewed U.S.-Iran diplomacy and a significant recovery in Saudi exports boosted market sentiment.
The price of WTI crude, the most actively traded contract, fell to approximately $98.34 per barrel, down 1.95% from Friday's settlement of $100.30. The November contract is trading around $94.16 per barrel.
The selloff in oil prices is being driven by renewed hopes for diplomacy between the U.S. and Iran at this week's United Nations General Assembly, as well as a significant recovery in Saudi exports, which have climbed above 4 million barrels per day in September after falling to 2.4 million bpd in August.
Despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, traders are increasingly betting that diplomatic efforts and improved export levels will provide a path towards de-escalation and reduced supply threats.
