Oil Prices Plummet on Hopes for Iran Diplomacy and Pipeline Reopening
Oil prices have fallen to a two-week low as optimism grows over a potential diplomatic push to end the Iran war and the reopening of a critical pipeline in Saudi Arabia. The price of Brent crude oil briefly slipped below $98 per barrel, while US crude oil fell below $93 per barrel, their lowest levels since September 8.
Hopes for a resolution have been fueled by reports that Iran is willing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within days if the US takes steps towards easing pressure on the country. According to an Iranian government official, Iran will agree to the early opening of the strait if the US indicates a willingness to lift the port blockade and cease military operations around the strait.
The reopening of the pipeline in Saudi Arabia has also contributed to the decline in oil prices. The optimism surrounding these developments has seen November WTI extend its pullback, with the US dollar mostly softer ahead of the North American session.
