Oil Prices Plunge as US and Iran Pause Military Strikes
Oil prices plummeted as tensions in the Middle East showed signs of easing. The US and Iran paused their direct military strikes for three days, allowing space for negotiations to take place. September WTI crude oil fell by $6.06 or 6.79 percent while September RBOB gasoline dropped by $0.0679 or 2.10 percent.
Tehran indicated it would refrain from immediate retaliation and was conducting negotiations through Oman concerning the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump stated that American military actions were paused to allow space for peaceful negotiations.
However, underlying regional tensions remain high as the US continues its naval blockade of Iranian crude shipments in the Persian Gulf. Yemen's Houthi militants reported targeting Saudi Aramco facilities in the Red Sea port towns of Yanbu and Jizan, adding to the geopolitical risks.
