Saudi Arabia Intercepts Drones Launched from Iraq Targeting Oil Facilities

Saudi Arabia's air defenses intercepted and destroyed several drones launched from Iraqi territory that attempted to target oil facilities in the kingdom's Eastern Province, according to the Saudi defense ministry. This was the second such attack in less than two days, raising tensions between Riyadh and Baghdad.

The drones were launched by Iran-backed militias, said Turki al-Maliki, a spokesperson for the Saudi defense ministry. He stated that Saudi Arabia reserves the right to defend itself and its national capabilities, and will respond at an appropriate time and place if necessary.

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has ordered an investigation into the incident, promising that Iraq will not allow its territory to be used against neighboring countries. The Eastern Province is home to much of Saudi Arabia's oil production and export infrastructure.
