Oil prices continued their downward trend on Monday, falling to their lowest level in over a week. The decrease was attributed to rising hopes for diplomatic efforts at the UN General Assembly to ease tensions between the US and Iran.

Brent crude futures dropped by $2.16 (2.08%) to $101.71 per barrel, while US light crude fell by $2.15 (2.14%) to $98.15 per barrel. This decline marked a continuation of Friday's 0.91% and 1.58% decreases in Brent and US light crude prices, respectively.

Market analyst Tim Waterer from KCM Trade noted that some risk premium is being stripped out of oil prices due to hopes for diplomatic progress. However, he cautioned that it remains uncertain whether these expectations will become a reality.
