Oil Prices Slide on Diplomatic Hopes, US-Iran Tensions Ease
Oil prices declined on Monday to their lowest level in over a week due to hopes that diplomacy may ease tensions between the US and Iran. Brent crude futures and WTI crude touched their lowest since September 10, with Brent falling $2.16 or 2.08% to $101.71 a barrel.
The decline comes as investors await developments on the diplomatic front, particularly ahead of the UN General Assembly meeting where Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is expected to attend. Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade, attributed the drop in oil prices to a 'degree of risk premium' being removed from the market.
Despite the decline, Middle East oil flows remain strong, with Saudi Arabia's exports recovering to over 4 million barrels per day after slumping to 2.4 million bpd in August due to attacks by Yemen's Houthis on its East-West pipeline.
