Oil prices retreated on Thursday after three consecutive sessions of gains as US President Donald Trump signaled that the renewed attacks on Iran may not persist for an extended period.

The rally had been driven by concerns over potential disruptions to oil supplies from the Middle East, but Trump's comments helped temper some of these supply worries.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a key focus for oil markets, and while US Energy Secretary Chris Wright noted that 17 million barrels of crude passed through the waterway on Monday, shipping traffic remains volatile.
