Ontario- Alberta Pipeline Proposal Slammed as 'Ludicrous' by Environmental Experts

A proposed pipeline project between Alberta and Ontario has sparked criticism from environmental experts who call it 'ludicrous' and 'absurd.'

The Northern Shield Energy Corridor, announced by Premier Doug Ford of Ontario and Premier Danielle Smith of Alberta, would span 3,300km and connect refineries in Sarnia to Hardisty. According to a brief released on the Government of Ontario's website, the project would bolster energy security and unlock opportunities for pipeline infrastructure across Canada.

Hadrian Mertins-Kirkwood, a political economist at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, expressed his disbelief in the proposal, stating that it 'seems like such an absurd proposition.'

Critics argue that the project is unlikely to move forward due to declining demand for oil and the lack of private support. The pipeline's proposed route also passes through areas currently experiencing wildfires, raising concerns about its feasibility.
