OPEC+ Agrees to Hike Oil Production Amid Ongoing Global Uncertainty
The OPEC+ cartel has agreed to increase its oil production quota by around 188,000 barrels per day from September. This decision was made by seven key producers, including Saudi Arabia and Russia, but it may not have an immediate impact on global supplies due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world's oil exports transit, remains congested, limiting the flow of additional crude. Additionally, Russia is struggling with its own production after Ukrainian drone attacks damaged energy infrastructure, and its output currently lags behind its OPEC+ target of around 9.8 million barrels per day.
The United Arab Emirates' recent exit from the group has also added uncertainty to the situation. Analysts expect a cautious approach by OPEC+, with Rystad Energy predicting steady production levels through the fourth quarter before discussions on quotas for 2027 begin.
