OPEC+ Maintains Production Targets Amid Persian Gulf Export Disruptions
On October 4, OPEC+ decided to maintain its oil production targets for November, aligning with market expectations that no major policy shifts will occur until next year. The decision came during an online meeting involving seven key members, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Algeria, Kazakhstan, and Oman. According to UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo, the group left production quotas unchanged, though actual output remains significantly below these targets despite increased oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
Persistent export disruptions, primarily due to the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, have kept Persian Gulf oil producers well below their output goals. In recent months, exports have been running at only 60% to 80% of normal levels. Saudi Arabia, a major player in OPEC+, previously reported that its oil production dropped sharply in August, hitting the lowest level since 1990 due to constraints on exporting crude.
