Pakistan Adjusts Fuel Prices Amid International Oil Market Shifts
The Pakistani government has announced a slight increase in petrol prices and a decrease in high-speed diesel (HSD) prices effective October 7, 2026. The price of petrol will rise by Rs1.19 per litre, bringing it to Rs394.83, while HSD will become cheaper by Rs1.91 per litre, priced at Rs395.85.
This adjustment follows a recent review under the government’s petroleum pricing mechanism, with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revising the ex-depot prices. The changes were based on international petroleum price movements, Platts rates, premiums, and other applicable costs.
The latest revision comes after a previous adjustment on Monday, when petrol prices increased by Re0.88 per litre and HSD prices decreased by Rs1.88 per litre. Despite the recent increase in petrol prices, diesel has become more affordable for consumers.
The domestic price adjustments coincide with a decline in international crude oil prices by nearly 2% on Tuesday. This drop was attributed to easing concerns over supply disruptions, higher crude exports from the Middle East, and an agreement by the Group of Seven (G7) countries to release emergency reserves of crude oil and diesel.
Brent crude futures fell by $1.84, or 1.8%, to $98.48 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined by $1.42, or 1.6%, to $88.01 per barrel. These losses put Brent on course for its lowest closing level since September 8 and WTI toward its weakest close since August 31.
