Pakistan and Türkiye to Deploy Forces in Saudi Arabia Amid Houthi Threats
Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to deploy military forces and capabilities in Saudi Arabia as part of their commitments under the Mecca Alliance for Defense. The decision follows an emergency meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee held in Riyadh on October 5, 2026. The three countries condemned the recent attacks by Yemen's Houthi group, which have targeted Mecca, Madinah, and other civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia.
The joint statement released by the Saudi Ministry of Defense emphasized that the security of each country is integral to the collective security of the alliance. The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, signed on August 7, 2026, stipulates that an attack on any signatory will be considered an attack on all. The countries affirmed that translating this agreement into practical measures would strengthen deterrence, military readiness, and integration.
The Houthi group has escalated tensions by imposing a maritime ban on Saudi shipping since July 2026 and launching strikes on Saudi tankers and oil facilities. The alliance's decision to deploy forces aims to address these security threats and ensure rapid response capabilities.
