Pakistan Faces LNG Supply Crunch Amid US-Iran War Tensions
The suspension of liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply to Pakistan by Qatar has caused concern among Pakistani businessmen and economists. Mian Zahid Hussain, President of the Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum (PBIF), stated that Qatar's supply disruption due to the US-Iran war will severely impact industrial gas supplies.
The situation is further complicated as Pakistan relies heavily on LNG imports to meet its energy demands. In recent years, the country has managed to secure only 17 LNG cargoes between March and September 2026, with the last shipment arriving from Qatar on September 22.
According to Hussain, industries are already struggling in the global market due to high production costs. The anticipated cuts in LNG supply will force factories to scale down production, putting a significant strain on the country's export sector.
