Pakistan Petrol Prices Soar Despite Global Oil Slump

Petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan have continued to rise despite a decline in global crude oil prices, sparking questions about the government's daily petroleum pricing system.

Over the past 10 days, consumers have faced record-high fuel costs even as international benchmark crude prices dropped. High-speed diesel has increased by more than Rs65 per litre since July 17, rising from Rs323.30 to a record Rs388.38 per litre. Meanwhile, petrol prices climbed by Rs26.43 per litre during the same period.

The latest price trend highlights the growing gap between falling global crude oil prices and rising domestic fuel rates in Pakistan. Officials say domestic fuel prices are influenced not only by crude oil but also by refined petroleum product prices, taxes, and other charges.
