Pakistan Secures Second LNG Shipment Amidst Energy Crunch
Pakistan has successfully imported its second shipment of liquefied natural gas from the Persian Gulf in just one week, demonstrating its growing geopolitical influence. The latest cargo arrived on Friday, bringing the total to around 160,000 tons.
According to Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Pakistan's role as a mediator between Tehran and Washington has provided it with an advantageous position to secure LNG supplies. He stated that 'friendly countries are helping Pakistan,' and attributed the success to the highest level of leadership from key nations, including Qatar, Iran, the US, and China.
The country has been facing severe fuel shortages, which have led to blackouts and higher energy costs. To address this issue, Islamabad has leveraged its diplomatic ties with various countries to secure alternative fuels. For instance, it recently purchased around 6 million barrels of US crude oil for the first time.
