Pakistan Seeks Emergency Wheat Imports Amid Rising Prices
The federal government of Pakistan has decided to import one million tonnes of wheat to address the supply-demand gap in the country's staple grain market.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain confirmed the decision, stating that it aims to fulfill demands from provincial governments and stabilize wheat and flour prices across the country.
The move comes as wheat and flour prices continue to rise, with official data showing an average wheat price of Rs 4,611 per 40kg (Rs. 115 per kg) in the first week of July 2026.
Province-wise, the current prices are: Punjab at Rs. 4,423, Sindh at Rs. 4,625, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at Rs. 5,100, and Balochistan at Rs. 4,800.
