Pakistan's Food Security Crisis: Exports Halted by Safety Concerns
The Agri-Connections Conference and Expo is set to take place in Lahore on October 1-2, focusing on 'food security and agri-investment in the era of climate change.'
Kazim Saeed, CEO Pakistan Agricultural Coalition, highlighted that food security is no longer just a national and regional priority but also affects every Pakistani household.
The conference will address food safety concerns hindering exports, as stated by Kazim. He mentioned that the FAO would brief on how to transition from a government-administered to a deregulated wheat sector, requiring private sector engagement.
Kazim emphasized the importance of engaging Pakistan's private businesses in initiatives such as the federal government's development of an ecosystem for farmers' access to finance. The State Bank is working with the Zarkheze framework for farm credit and the SECP for crop insurance.
