US, Iran Hold Separate Talks with Mediators as War Enters Seventh Month
US and Iranian officials separately spoke with mediators on Monday as part of a renewed effort to end seven months of war, according to officials from both countries. The conflict began in late February when US and Israeli attacks on Iran killed thousands of people.
The war has had a significant impact on global markets, particularly the waterways for oil, which have remained choked.
A previous ceasefire agreement between the two sides fell apart in June after just a few days. The latest talks come as part of an effort to revive that agreement and end hostilities.
The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, said Iran expected to receive the US response to its ceasefire proposals, which include restoring passage of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
