Permian Basin Natural Gas Demand Surges as Midstream Expansion Unlocks Growth
The Permian Basin's natural gas economics are experiencing a rebound due to midstream expansion unlocking demand. Analysts at East Daley Analytics predict that booming demand from LNG export terminals and power-hungry data centers will add over 31 Bcf/d in US natural gas consumption by 2036. However, pipeline capacity constraints could stall growth for new entrants.
The surge in demand is driven by the increasing need for natural gas to fuel power generation, particularly in data centers. These facilities are becoming increasingly dependent on natural gas due to its reliability and efficiency. The LNG export terminals will also contribute significantly to the increase in demand, as they require large amounts of natural gas to transport liquefied gas to international markets.
Despite the growth in demand, pipeline capacity constraints remain a concern for new entrants in the Permian Basin. Analysts warn that these limitations could hinder the development of new projects and limit the region's potential for growth.
