PKI Demands Fair Wheat Price and Immediate Sugar Exports

The Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI) has demanded that the government set a fair wheat support price at Rs5,000 per 40 kilogrammes. PKI President Khalid Khokhar said that despite wheat sowing being about to begin, the government had yet to announce a policy for the crop.

Khokhar warned that continued delay would deepen farmers' financial difficulties and could affect wheat cultivation. He emphasized that agriculture is the backbone of the country's economy, with wheat being the largest crop and a key driver of the agriculture sector.

Farmers need fair prices rather than subsidies, Khokhar said. Whenever growers receive a reasonable price for wheat, the country achieves higher production. However, farmers are no longer able to use balanced fertilizers because they're not receiving the cost of production.
