PNGRB Issues Guidelines for Compressed Biogas Injection into Natural Gas Pipelines
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has issued guidelines for the injection of compressed biogas into natural gas pipelines and city gas distribution networks. The move aims to provide a framework for safe, efficient, and standardized integration of CBG into authorized natural gas infrastructure.
The guidelines were developed through an extensive consultative process involving representatives from CBG producers, CGD entities, and NGPL pipeline operators. The draft guidelines were placed in the public domain to invite comments from stakeholders and the public, followed by detailed deliberations in an Open House meeting.
The approved guidelines cover key areas such as design and technical standards, CBG quality and specifications, installation procedures for CBG injection facilities, operational practices, monitoring, maintenance, and safety requirements. The guidelines also include illustrative schematic drawings detailing typical CBG injection configurations.
