Private Sector Steers Alberta Away from Public Gas Pipeline

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has announced that a public natural gas pipeline is unlikely to be built in the province. This news comes as a consortium of energy and infrastructure companies has given the green light to a $4.6-billion natural gas-powered electricity project in Sturgeon County.

The project, which will provide clean energy for Alberta's growing artificial intelligence (AI) and data centre industry, is expected to create hundreds of jobs and stimulate economic growth in the region.

According to Smith, the private sector has stepped up to meet the province's energy needs, making a public pipeline unnecessary. She emphasized that the project will be built using private funding and will not rely on taxpayer dollars.
