Projectile Strike Hits Crude Oil Tanker off Oman Amid Strait of Hormuz Tensions
A crude oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Oman on Thursday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported.
The incident occurred four nautical miles east of Oman, with the projectile hitting the port side of the tanker. Fortunately, all crew members were safe and there was no environmental impact.
This latest attack came hours after another tanker was struck by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The first incident caused 'a small fire and blackout onboard,' but the blaze was later extinguished and the tanker continued its journey without casualties or damage to the environment.
The UKMTO warned that commercial vessels continue to be targeted in the region, with 31 out of 48 projectile strikes reported since July 6 occurring along the southern Omani route. The agency also noted that ongoing military activity is sustaining an increased risk to maritime operations.
