Putin Accused of Using Wheat as Strategic Weapon Against Germany and West
Russian President Vladimir Putin's actions are being blamed for problems in Germany's agriculture sector. According to Joachim Rukwid, president of the Union of German Farmers, Putin is using wheat as a strategic weapon against Western countries.
Russia has been harvesting good wheat crops for three years in a row, filling its granaries and allowing it to flood the world market with wheat at aggressive prices. This alleged tactic puts pressure on global prices, affecting the earnings of German farmers.
Rukwid stated that if world prices are low, his country's farmers earn nothing. He did not mention cutting ties with Russia but called for the German government to reduce taxes and provide more assistance in purchasing fertilizers.
