Qatar Extends Force Majeure on LNG Shipments Amid Hormuz Disruptions
Qatar has extended its force majeure on liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments to Asia and Europe through November and early December. The decision was made due to ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which have pushed LNG prices in Europe and Asia to their highest levels since late 2022.
The state-owned QatarEnergy has been operating its Ras Laffan export facility at reduced capacity since it was attacked and damaged in March. The facility remains ready for a rapid increase in output if the Strait of Hormuz reopens.
Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, and Italy's Edison are among the buyers affected by the extended supply cancellations. QatarEnergy has been updating LNG customers on the force majeure and cancelling scheduled deliveries roughly once a month since the Iran war began.
