QatarEnergy Extends LNG Force Majeure Amid Ongoing Strait of Hormuz Disruptions
QatarEnergy has extended its liquefied natural gas (LNG) force majeure until November, affecting deliveries to Asia and Europe. This is not the first time the company has done so, as it has updated customers on cancellations roughly once a month since the Iran war began.
The disruptions are attributed to ongoing trouble in the Strait of Hormuz, which handled about a fifth of global LNG supply last year. Shipments have picked up this month but remain below pre-war levels.
QatarEnergy's decision is particularly challenging heading into the Northern Hemisphere winter, as prices for LNG in Europe and Asia have risen to their highest levels since late 2022. This could lead to higher utility bills during the coldest months.
