QatarEnergy has extended its force majeure notices on liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to Italy and Asia, citing disruptions linked to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. According to Edison, one of QatarEnergy's largest European clients, this is the latest extension of a force majeure first declared in April.

The force majeure notices have been extended through November, affecting customers in Asia, including Bangladesh and Pakistan. This means that six additional LNG cargoes will be canceled, bringing the total number of undelivered cargoes to 35.

Italian energy company Edison has already replaced 23 of these cancelled cargoes by purchasing gas from US suppliers. European buyers will have to seek alternative sources to replenish gas storage facilities ahead of the winter heating season, which is expected to intensify competition with Asian customers and keep prices high.
