QatarEnergy LNG Disruption Extends Until Early December
The Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply disruption to Italy's Edison utility has been extended until early December, according to a report by the Traders Union. This prolonged outage began in April and has resulted in QatarEnergy canceling six more LNG cargoes, bringing the total number of undelivered shipments to 35.
Edison, which holds a long-term contract with QatarEnergy for 6.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, has managed to replace 23 lost Qatari LNG cargoes primarily with U.S. supplies. This substitution has helped maintain around 10% of Italy's annual gas consumption under the 25-year agreement.
Qatar's LNG exports have plummeted by 96% year-on-year through August, with only 18 cargoes exported compared to 509 in the same period last year. This decline is intensifying European gas storage concerns ahead of winter as buyers scramble to refill storage sites.
