QatarEnergy Secures US LNG Shipments Amid Strait of Hormuz Disruption
QatarEnergy has taken emergency measures to ensure Asia's energy supply remains stable after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz disrupted Qatari gas exports. The company has purchased 33 spot LNG cargoes from the United States, valued at around $1 billion.
The shipments are intended for key Asian markets, including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India, and Bangladesh. This move is designed to protect these countries' energy supplies, which had been disrupted by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
QatarEnergy declared force majeure due to the circumstances beyond its control, allowing it to divert resources to secure alternative LNG shipments from the US.
