Romania's Fuel Prices Soar to Record Highs Amid Global Market Volatility
Fuel prices in Romania have reached record highs due to high import costs. Gasoline has risen to 10.05 lei per liter, equivalent to around €2.02. Diesel prices are approaching 11 lei per liter, or approximately €2.21.
The main driver of this increase is the current international market conditions, where diesel prices have remained above $1,500 per ton for over a week. This has led to higher import and distribution expenses.
Romania's domestic market remains exposed to global market fluctuations despite producing up to 3 million tons of crude oil annually. The taxes on fuel in Romania account for around 60% of the retail price at filling stations, adding further pressure on consumer costs.
