Rosebank Oil and Gas Field Project Clears Regulatory Hurdle
The Rosebank oil and gas field project has made significant progress after completing its public consultation period. The Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning (OPRED) has closed the consultation, which will now be considered before a ministerial decision on whether to approve the project.
Rosebank is expected to produce 69,000 barrels of oil per day at its peak, equivalent to around 10% of anticipated UK Continental Shelf oil output. This significant investment could help slow down the decline in total UK oil production, which is forecast to decrease in coming years.
The Rosebank field, located approximately 130km north-west of Shetland, will be developed in two phases with subsea wells tied back to a redeployed FPSO. According to Neil McCulloch, Chief Executive of Adura, the project has the potential to deliver real economic benefits for the country.
The combined Rosebank and Jackdaw projects represent an anticipated investment of £10.8 billion ($14.6 billion), with more than three-quarters of it spent in the UK. The projects have the potential to make up 10% of domestic natural gas production, and Adura's portfolio, including these developments, could see average production emissions intensity as low as half the North Sea average.
