Russian Wheat Exports to Uzbekistan Soar Nearly 16-Fold This Year

Russian wheat exports to Uzbekistan skyrocketed in the first eight months of this year, with shipments rising nearly 16-fold compared to the same period last year. According to Agroexport, Russia shipped over 71,000 metric tons of wheat to Uzbekistan between January and August, valued at $12.6 million.

This surge marks a significant increase in trade volumes between the two countries, with Uzbekistan receiving its highest monthly shipment of Russian wheat in August, exceeding 65,000 metric tons. This surpasses the previous record set in September 2022, when shipments totaled around 11,000 tons.

Vladimir Petrichenko, head of ProZerno agricultural market consultancy, notes that Turkey has sharply reduced its purchases of Russian wheat in recent months, with its share of Russia's wheat exports falling to just 2 percent. This decline comes as the number of countries importing Russian wheat dropped to eight in the second ten-day period of September, down from 29 during the same period last year.
