Petronet LNG has named Sanjay Kumar as its next Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Kumar, who currently serves as GAIL (India) Director (Marketing), will take charge on May 13, 2027, when the extended tenure of current chief executive A K Singh ends.

Kumar's appointment is seen as a strategic move to expand Petronet's regasification and downstream infrastructure. As head of marketing at GAIL, Kumar has experience in the marketing and distribution side of the gas business.

Petronet operates India's largest liquefied natural gas import terminal at Dahej in Gujarat and another terminal at Kochi in Kerala. The company handles about 74% of India's LNG imports and accounts for approximately 34% of the country's gas supplies.

Kumar will serve a five-year term as Petronet's MD and CEO, bringing over 35 years of experience across the natural gas and LNG value chain to the role. He is a mechanical engineer from IIT Kharagpur with an MBA.
