Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg has addressed concerns that his state's oil company, Petros, is threatening the role of national oil company Petronas. He stated that the growth of Petros' involvement in gas processing and development of the Kuching LNG terminal will not displace or undermine Petronas.

Petros has been discussing a partnership with Norwegian energy infrastructure company Höegh Evi for over a year to develop, own, and operate the Kuching LNG terminal. Abang Johari emphasized that Sarawak remains committed to working with Petronas while increasing its capacity to process local resources.

The state is also exploring small-scale LNG plants using available feedstock, which will enable it to produce higher-value products and reduce reliance on fluctuating gas prices.
