Saudi Arabia Accuses Houthi Rebels of Targeting Mecca with Drone
Saudi Arabia accused the Houthi rebels of crossing a 'red line' by targeting Mecca, Islam's holiest city, with a drone on Tuesday.
The Saudi-led Coalition Forces spokesperson, Turki al-Maliki, said that the Houthis had never before targeted Mecca in almost a decade and vowed to take 'deterrent measures' against them.
The Houthis denied targeting Mecca, claiming their targets were Saudi oil facilities and military bases far from the holy city.
Saudi Arabia intercepted and destroyed the drone before it entered Mecca's restricted airspace, according to al-Maliki.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the incident, saying that it violated the sanctity of holy sites and instilled fear in innocent civilians.
