Saudi Arabia Foils Drone Attack Blamed on Iran-Backed Groups

Saudi Arabia's defense ministry announced that it intercepted several drones launched by pro-Iran groups in Iraq on Monday, marking a renewed threat to the country's oil infrastructure.

The attack comes after a lull in fighting since Saturday, following 13 days of exchanges of fire between the US and Iran. The Saudi defense ministry attributed the drone attacks to 'terrorist attempts' launched from Iraqi territory by Iranian-backed militias.

The Houthis in Yemen also claimed responsibility for launching drone attacks on Saudi oil infrastructure in response to incursions by the kingdom's drones, according to a statement by the Houthi rebels. The Saudi defense ministry said the drones targeted petroleum facilities in areas of the country's east and the capital Riyadh.
