Saudi Arabia Lowers Oil Price to Asia Amid High Shipping Costs
Saudi Arabia has reduced the price of its benchmark oil grade for deliveries to Asia. The move comes as the cost of shipping oil from the Strait of Hormuz to Asia has surged to around $30 per barrel. Amrita Sen, founder of Energy Aspects, attributed the price cut to the rising shipping expenses, noting that the biggest challenge lies in ship-to-ship transfers.
Sen shared her insights with Bloomberg Television, explaining that the high shipping costs are a key factor driving the price adjustment. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil supplies, and any disruptions or increased costs in this region can have significant impacts on oil prices.
