Saudi Arabia Reroutes Oil Through Bypass Pipeline
Saudi Arabia is reportedly pumping nearly six million barrels per day (bpd) through its East-West pipeline, which bypasses the Strait of Hormuz.
This development has about four and a half million bpd of pipeline flow available for export, according to Bloomberg reports. The pipeline is often used as a workaround when the Strait of Hormuz is compromised.
Rerouting oil through this pipeline has historically been seen as a signal of supply continuity rather than new production. This means that barrels are being redirected, not added, which affects whether the risk premium in crude and freight begins to decrease.
