Saudi Arabia Scraps Plans for 'NEOM Stadium' Ahead of 2034 FIFA World Cup
Saudi Arabia has suspended its plans to build the 'NEOM Stadium' for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, according to Reuters.
The stadium was meant to be one of the most ambitious projects among the 15 being built or renovated by Saudi Arabia for the tournament.
Conceptualized as a low-carbon venue with a 46,000-seat capacity, NEOM Stadium would have hosted group-stage matches and quarterfinals in the city of 'NEOM', which is still under construction.
The suspension is reportedly linked to difficulties faced by Saudi Arabia due to Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz following the US and Israeli attacks on Iran in late February, affecting oil transportation and infrastructure damage.
