Saudi Arabia Shifts Riyadh Schools to Remote Learning Amid Houthi Threat
Saudi Arabia has taken steps to ensure civilian safety in Riyadh by shifting schools to remote learning for a week due to Houthi missile and drone attacks. The move comes as cross-border strikes widen concerns over shipping and oil supplies.
The decision was announced with last-minute notifications sent to parents, stating that in-person classes would be suspended for the entire week. No reason was given for the decision, but it follows a sharp escalation of attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, including drone and ballistic missile launches claimed by the Houthis.
On Sunday, Saudi authorities informed schools across Riyadh that they must remain closed for the week. This came after the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis intercepted two ballistic missiles and two drones launched towards the kingdom.
The attacks are part of a wider escalation that began in July, when renewed fighting shattered a years-long period of relative calm between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis.
